The Crisol Corridor was established with the fundamental goal of maintaining and enhancing an already vibrant commercial corridor with an eclectic mix of diverse local businesses and amenities. Through a collaborative strategy – the Crisol Corridor implements a variety of key initiatives that aim to address the mutual needs and interests of both the business and residential community to attract new business, development, and an increased interest from the greater Milwaukee region and beyond.
Key Initiatives of the Crisol Corridor Business Improvement District
- Beautification & Property Enhancement
- Beautification matching grant program supporting property improvements and visual enhancements for businesses and commercial properties within the district.
- Districtwide seasonal winter holiday décor.
- Installation and upkeep of municipal-style trash receptacles throughout the district.
- Collaboration with local residential groups on multiple public art murals showcasing the culture, history and creativity of our shared community.
- Marketing, Outreach & Promotion
- Matching grant program available to those businesses looking to market and promote, host a public event, or other marketing-related activity.
- Host & collaborate with community partners to provide a variety of meetings and opportunities for engagement throughout the year, including the district’s annual business member event, project & industry-specific informational sessions, planning workshops, and more.
- Promotion of available commercial real estate & redevelopment opportunities.
- Regular distribution of digital and print newsletters to district businesses, commercial property owners and others.
- Online and social media presence sharing district news, business spotlights & promotions, planning & project specific workshops, resident-based community events, as well as other general updates.
- Advocacy, outreach, and communication in support of the business district and its members with community-based organizations, resident lead groups, local government & elected officials as well as area law enforcement.
- Public Safety & Security
- Matching grant program available to those businesses looking to make safety & security improvements to their building or property.
- Rapid Implementation Initiative The City of Milwaukee’s “rapid implementation” initiative creates quick, low-cost street improvements to increase the safety and comfort of people walking, biking, and driving.
- Collaborate with Milwaukee Police Department, Zablocki Elementary School and other local business and community groups to promote public safety through community events and sponsorships such as National Night Out, community cleanups along the commercial corridors.
- Investment in upgraded pedestrian safety infrastructure such as solar powered flashing pedestrian crosswalk signage.
- Ongoing advocacy and collaboration with local government to increase the overall investment in roadway and streetscaping upgrades and improvements throughout the district. Recent notable projects include:
- S 13th St Rapid Implementation Initiative (ongoing)
- W Morgan Ave Complete Streets Project (complete)
- W Oklahoma Ave Multimodal Improvements (construction slated for Summer 2024)
- Pulaski Park Redevelopment & River Renaturalization (complete)
- The Kinnickinnic River 6th to 16th Street Project (ongoing)
